Ownership and financing

The Whale attraction is owned by The Whale AS, a company established in May 2018. Andøy Municipality is the largest shareholder, alongside six other owners: AH Holding AS, Norlandia Holding AS, Eidissen Consult AS, Hvalsafari AS, Whale2Sea AS, and Andøy Reiseliv SA.

The Whale AS is responsible for the development and construction of the attraction and will own the building once it is completed. Daily operations will be managed by its subsidiary, The Whale Drift AS, a non-profit company. Profits from operations are reinvested into the business to develop new or enhance existing offerings, aligned with The Whale's mission. Shareholders do not receive dividends.

The Whale is financed through a joint effort between public and private contributors, including Andøy Municipality, Nordland County Municipality, the Norwegian government, private companies, savings bank foundations, Innovation Norway, and loan financing.

In November 2024, the Norwegian government allocated funds to Andøy Municipality through the Andøy Fund. This funding secured the final portion of public financing required to realize The Whale, while also supporting other key transformation initiatives in the municipality.
