Over 160 people gathered to celebrate 10 years since the idea of The Whale was born. The event turned out to be an amazing experience filled with inspiration, culture, and visions for the future.
Ove Pedersen and Kine Eliassen welcomed the guests with microphones in hand and encouraged everyone to find their "inner whale." During the 90-minute event, Ove gathered sounds from the audience and mixed them with authentic echoes from Eggakanten, based on recordings from Bleiksdypet – the underwater continental shelf off Andenes, where whales are often found. As guests were leaving, they listened to the finished sound piece, providing a unique and atmospheric conclusion to the evening.
The highlight of the evening was a very special virtual tour – the first of its kind. Maria Sommer from Dorte Mandrup took the audience on a digital journey through the building, offering a glimpse into the unique architecture and the spectacular design that is now taking shape.
We also had the pleasure of introducing the international design team responsible for creating the content at The Whale. Tim Ventimiglia from Ralph Appelbaum Associates, Berlin, and Marc Tamschick from TAMSCHICK MEDIA+SPACE presented their plans for bringing the project’s vision to life.
As part of the program, we showcased a film presentation that took the audience on a journey through the last 10 years – from the initial ideas to the realization of a project that has gathered support and enthusiasm both locally and internationally.
The evening also included inspiring talks from Chairman Benn Eidissen, board member Lisbeth Seppola, and Mayor Kjell Are Johansen.
Musical highlights were provided by Andenes Mannskor and the Crescendo choir, who helped elevate the atmosphere and create a magical setting for the celebration. The event was hosted by Camilla Ilmoni and Hanne Strager from The Whale, who ensured a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making the evening unforgettable!
